Thank
you for your letter of 14 April which has arrived just as I am leaving for a
short holiday over the Easter weekend.
I
think I can best answer by saying yes, we are supportive of all the aims of GAIN,
as you have listed them~ We certainly want to maximise recycling, including all
the items you mention, as quickly as possible. Mixed paper and card, is already
programmed in and should start in September.
As
I said at your meeting we are totally opposed to an incinerator for Guildford,
but all I can do in relation to Surrey County Council's area of decision-making
is to try to influence them to see things our way. I understand that there is shortly to be a new SCC portfolio
holder with responsibility for the Environment and hopefully we shall be able
to build a constructive partnership.
